Revealed: the Digital Composer-in-Residence Competition Finalists

Lately at Dilettante we've been burning the midnight oil working on our Digital Composer-in-Residence Project - from recording sessions with the London Sinfonietta to developing the site features for the online voting and the winner's "Composer's Corner", things have been very busy.  Add to that the challenge of gathering judging marks from three countries in the middle of a Royal Mail strikeand throw in touch-and-go internet service (thanks, BT!) and you start to get the picture of what our Autumn has looked like. It was all worth it though, as we now have our three composer-finalists for the world's first Digital Composer-in-Residence Competition.

They are:

Chiayu
Zhi for piano and violin

David T. Little
1986 for string quartet

Aaron Gervais
Sensational Revolution in Medicine for soprano and piano

We'll have a lot more information on these three very talented Dilettante members from Tuesday (20th), when you can vote for your favourite piece. We've also been working on producing some podcasts with the guys at the London Sinfonietta, who have recorded the finalists' pieces, so you can hear from the Sinfonietta players as well as the composers themselves.

In the meantime, if you're in London don't forget to buy tickets to the concert on 5 November at Wilton's. We really hope to see you there!

I am an unabashed traditionalist when it comes to classical music, but I enjoyed listening to the three finalist pieces, each refreshingly distinct from its competition. Hope everyone using this site had a chance to hear these works for themselves and make an informed decision about them. Congrats to Dilettante for the impressive coordination of the Composer-in-Residence contest.

All three pieces are wonderful and I will definitely be there at Wilton's to hear them being performed live.
